| Bio: | Greetings! If you're reading this, chances are you've either a)noticed a painfully familiar fic of yours being mocked mercilessly and want to know just who's responsible, or b)accidentally spewed tea all over your monitor at some poor idiot's hilariously awful grammar and want to know just who's responsible. But fret no more, sugarbeet! For your convenience, we've put together a fun and informative info page that should answer all your questions with little to no coherency. Because we're probably kinda drunk. What We Does: To find out exactly what we here at Reikaisues are all about, we must first go to the source. Here's where the magic begins. ![]() Well, that's super! Nothing brightens our day more than a healthy, happy, teenaged lizard sharing her creativity with the world! And what better place to exhibit your new creation than on FF.Net? But be careful! Every day another fanfic is overtaken by the Mary Sue virus, and if the infection is not caught quickly, it could spread to other authors and launch an epidemic of biblical proportions. It's our job to spot these renegade Sues and warn others of their toxicity. ![]() Good question! A Mary Sue is an original female (or occasionally male) character who is inserted into a fandom upon an author's will. Once inside, she often proceeds to overshadow the canon characters and plot, diverting all reader attention to her own specialness. Sues come in many breeds, from the shy angelic love goddess to the foul-mouthed and arrogant goth!Sue. For our convenience and not yours, Sues of the Yu Yu Hakusho persuasion are grouped into the following categories: Know Thy Enemy: D-class: A rare and possibly mythical creature, the D-class Sue exhibits so few Sueish qualities that she becomes a legitimate and interesting original character. Her presence does not detract from or warp canon, but rather adds depth to the story and makes a logical contribution to the plot, without stealing all the limelight for her own use. She is an intelligent creature and always dwells in climates of well-checked spelling and grammar. Unfortunately, the D-class Sue is adapt at camouflage and extremely skittish, and a live specimen has yet to be collected. C-class: Also an endangered species, this breed manages to interest the reader despite having typical Sueish qualities. She may discover a super hidden power or even become romantically entangled with a canon character, but she manages it in a way that is intriguing and even original, rather than cliched and obnoxious. Another stickler for coherent writing, the C-class Sue is a lucky find indeed, though recent population booms of other Sue classes are threatening to push her from her natural habitat. B-class Sue: The tale of the B-class Sue is a tragic one indeed. When beginning their writing careers, many young authors are exposed to this species in great droves. Knowing no better and wishing to fit in, an author may adopt a B-class solely as a status symbol, caring nothing for originality. Eventually, the author becomes bored (or moves onto Yu-Gi-Oh fanfiction), and abandons the Sue to fend for herself in the wild. Left unchecked, the B-class will only keep reproducing and adding to the overpopulation problem. Some are able to evolve into a C-class with enough tender care and a serious round of spellcheck vaccinations, but most are too dull or grating to be of any use. Until authors learn to be more responsible for their creations, the only reliable solution to a B-class invasion is a shotgun. A-class: Increasing rapidly in numbers in the past few years, A-class Sues are dangerous, unpredictable beasts. There may be a glimmer of plot somewhere in there, but it's buried beneath a mound of ignorance and malicious snobbery. A-class Sues are characterized by their over-the-top perfection or angst and a strong disregard for the laws of canon. They can and will turn on an unsuspecting reader, and should be approached with great caution. S-class: S-class Sues are quite possibly the most terrifying breed in all of the fanfiction ecosystem. They ravage and maim canon characters through either parasitic seduction or heartless bashing. Their severe lack of sentence coherency has given rise to the theory that S-class Sues do not, in fact, originate from a computer (as they would then surely be familiar with the concept of spellcheck), but rather spawn from the nightmares of tender innocent children. S-classes are a vindictive breed, and there are documented cases of some flaming their enemies or critics into horrified submission with extensive capslock yelling. Taking down a fully grown S-class is a quest not to be taken lightly, and should be attempted only by trained professionals or cunning groups. Survival Manual: ![]() As an author, it's your responsibility to determine whether your character is a Sue, so that proper actions can be taken to contain the hazard. Look around the rest of FF.Net. Does your story bear a striking resemblance to all those other tales of a young girl joining the Reikai Tantei and boinking Hiei? If so, you probably have a Sue and should carefully consider your options. If in doubt, you can contact one of our fine, bootylicious staff members and send in your story for a quick evaluation and friendly advice. We promise to get back to you as soon as possible. We swear. For reals. It probably won't take more than six months or so. ![]() Remember, early detection is key! If you spot a Sue in your story and admit to the problem, you can save countless people from severe brain trauma. Consult a mature, responsible author you trust for ideas. A quick Google search will turn up helpful litmus tests that will help you target problem areas. Once you pinpoint the traits that make your character a Sue, you can begin the editing process to reform her. ![]() Why, yes. Yes we did. Next time you should probably think twice before touting the virtues of Sakura Jade Akira Moonblossom McSchmarglebargle and her neverending love for Kurama. Hope that clears everything up! Please exit via the back button or your nearest emergency link, and thank you for consulting Reikaisues for all your YYH fanbitchery needs. ![]() Sex Fiend Youko: tapping that fine Sue booty since before you was a gangsta. | |
